Dylan Jones

Dylan Jones is a partner in the Austin office of Reid Collins & Tsai LLP.  Prior to joining the firm, Dylan clerked for the Honorable Nancy F. Atlas of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas and worked as a litigation associate in the New York office of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.

Dylan received his J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 2017, where he was a member of the school’s interscholastic mock trial team and received the Nick C. Nichols Presidential Scholarship for Oral Advocacy.  Upon graduation, Dylan was elected to the Order of the Coif.  Dylan received his B.A. in Political Science from Colorado State University, where he was a member of the school’s Division I cycling team.

Notable Representations:

  • Represented Renren shareholders on derivative claims under Cayman law brought in New York state court arising from a scheme by company insiders to wrongfully take the company’s billion-dollar investment portfolio for themselves. The $300 million direct-pay settlement approved in June 2022 was one of the largest cash settlements of a derivative action in history.
  • Represented the Chapter 7 Trustee of The Northwest Company, a leading branded textiles manufacturer, in claims against company insiders. Obtained pre-judgment attachment of foreign defendant’s interest in real estate holding companies, leading to favorable settlement.
  • Represented publicly traded heavy construction company in dispute with former parent company, including defeating former parent’s motion to dismiss fraud claims.
  • Secured total defense verdict for new owner of $112 million student housing complex purchased in a forced sale. The verdict came after a two-week, multi-party trial in a derivative action brought on behalf of a Delaware Statutory Trust, involving allegations of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and contract violations.
  • Represented several investment funds in a dispute against high-profile pharmaceutical investment fund Celtic Pharma and one of its two principals arising from complex, cross-border issues involving the development and commercialization of novel pharmaceutical products.
  • Representing the Litigation Trustee of Alta Mesa Holdings, an oil and gas company, in investigation and pursuit of claims against former directors and officers.
  • Representing the Chapter 7 Trustee of failed startup accelerator in the investigation and pursuit of breach of fiduciary duty and other claims against former directors and officers.
  • Representing JW Aluminum Company in breach of contract and bad faith claims against issuers of syndicated property insurance policy following denial of coverage for fire and related business interruption losses. Argued and won summary judgment dismissal of certain of defendant-insurers’ counterclaims and affirmative defenses.
  • Representing the Litigation Trustee of GWG Holdings, a former public company, in the investigation and pursuit of claims against former directors and officers, fraudulent transfer claims, and professional negligence claims. The facts surrounding GWG’s bankruptcy have been the subject of extensive investigative reporting in the Wall Street Journal and other publications.
